History

The College of Electrical and Computer Engineering was officially established in August 2004, with a mission to educate and conduct research to cultivate high-tech talent in fields such as electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, optoelectronics, and communications. In recent years, with the significant growth of Taiwan's electronics and information industries, the demand for related talent has become more urgent. The college actively cooperates with government policies, combines domestic industrial technology with the Central Taiwan Science Park, and systematically cultivates the talent needed by the industry. The college's development goal is to step out of the academic ivory tower and integrate closely with the industry, utilizing industrial resources for teaching, while also providing technical services and development assistance to the industry. By following social trends and industry developments, the college aims to nurture talent with a solid theoretical foundation, practical experience, and a strong fit for industrial needs, thereby jointly promoting industry-academia cooperation. The college currently has five departments and institutes, including:
  • Department of Electrical Engineering (including Master's Program)
  • Department of Optoelectronic Engineering (including Master's and Ph.D. Programs in Optoelectronics and Materials Technology)
  • Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (including Master's Program)
  • Department of Electronic Engineering (including Master's Program)

Department/Institute Background

The Department of Electrical Engineering (formerly the Department of Electrical Engineering before the reorganization) was established when the school was founded in 1980. The Department of Optoelectronic Engineering (formerly the Department of Optoelectronics) was established in 1988. The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and the Institute of Optoelectronics and Materials Technology (Master's Program) were officially established on August 1, 2002. The Department of Electronic Engineering and the Institute of Optoelectronics and Materials Technology (Ph.D. Program) began enrolling students on August 1, 2005, which has made the college's electrical and computer science education more comprehensive, cultivating more outstanding high-tech talent.
