On March 22, 2025, the College of Electrical and Information Engineering at National Formosa University held a social practice activity at the Taliwu Cultural Park in Douliu, Yunlin County, themed "The Tale of Three Treasures — Shui Jing Village X Taliwu Cultural Exploration," successfully attracting residents from the southernmost coastal fishing village of Yunlin County — Shui Jing Village. This event not only allowed students to showcase their creative vision and explore local culture, but also integrated Shui Jing Village's "Three Treasures" with traditional crafts, local culture, and creative handmade works, demonstrating the social value of cross-generational collaboration.

Cross-Generational Collaboration and Cultural Heritage

University students applied their creative vision to combine traditional crafts, local culture, and therapeutic handmade activities, welcoming visiting elders with youthful energy and sincerity, injecting a fresh cultural vitality into Shui Jing Village. Dr. Hsu Yong-He, Dean of the College of Electrical and Information Engineering at National Formosa University, stated that the college's USR "Shui Jing Village Smart Carbon-Reduction, Water-Saving, Three-in-One Social Practice Project," initiated in 2025, has engaged in deep cooperation with Shui Jing Village in Kouhu Township. The program aims to allow students, through social practice, not only to bring inspiration and revitalization to the remote fishing village, but also to infuse a more humanistic warmth into the otherwise cold AI technologies in the era of human-machine coexistence.

Integrating Tradition and Modern Technology

The Three Treasures of Shui Jing — the White Horse, the Turtle, and the Love Flower — allowed villagers to gain a deeper understanding of their own culture. Villagers personally created one of the Three Treasures — the Love Flower craft made from corn husks — combined with LED lighting design, giving traditional crafts more innovative meaning. Many villagers remarked that the hands-on workshop not only helped them understand the cultural features of their hometown, but also taught them how to recycle eco-friendly materials while preserving traditional elements in modern creativity. Many students commented, "This hands-on workshop not only inspired our creativity but also allowed us to rediscover the roots of our culture. It was truly a rewarding experience!"

Human Warmth Beyond AI

This event combined academic knowledge with social needs, breaking the boundaries of purely academic and technological fields. The students' social practice not only preserves tradition but also reflects thoughtful action for future society and the environment. Through such practice, students improved their abilities and gained strong competitiveness to face potential future AI challenges — because creativity, cultural heritage, and humanistic care are forces that AI cannot replace.
